We want to hear about your experience!
Why did you choose this program?
I chose to study in Salamanca because I wanted a smaller city that I could feel comfortable and at home in. I also was looking for a Spanish language intensive program so Salamanca was a perfect fit for me.

What was your favorite aspect of this program?
It is nearly impossible for me to pick only one favorite aspect of my experience abroad. I loved exploring new cities and cultures, living with a host family who quickly embraced me as part of their family, taking classes in another language and the confidence this instilled in my own language abilities, and the friends I have made from within my program, friends I am confident will be friends of mine for life.

What was your housing situation like?
My host family was so welcoming and friendly. Though they spoke little to no English we quickly bonded and I am so happy to say I have a second family in Spain whenever I return. We lived in a small but comfortable apartment with Jeny and her husband Jose. Their son Nacho, his wife Ani and their 2 year old son Hugo lived in a connecting apartment. Playing with Hugo was the highlight of my day each day after school.

What was your favorite class and why?
My favorite class was my Spanish Language Grammar class. It was my favorite because it was a small group and each of us had been tested and generally speaking we were all at about the same level. We had a young teacher who let us navigate the class and pursue elements of Spanish I had never explored in a classroom like pop culture and Spanglish. Our class became so incredibly close as it was the only class we had everyday.

What did you gain from studying abroad?
From studying abroad I have gained a new sense of independence and self worth. Before leaving I was absolutely terrified about everything from the new food to the thought of making new friends. I was able to tackle it all, not just tackle it but have so much fun in the process. I have returned home with a newfound love for traveling, a second family, and new lifelong friends. Studying abroad is something I think every student should take advantage of. It changes your perspective on life and allows you to truly get to know yourself like nothing else can.
