— Ashlyn Miller, Fall 2013
What was your favorite aspect of this program?
Program Testimonials
The program has a major focus in cultural immersion, which as hard and frustrating as it was at times, really made me feel like I was not just studying or visiting Austria, but truly living there and enjoying my life.
— Taylor Reisz, Spring 2017
What was your housing situation like?
Program Testimonials
I was in a Villa about 45 minutes away from the IES center with 5 other students and an RA from Wien. It was a very nice house. I had my own large room and a small bathroom. This is not the typical housing for this program, I just happened to be placed in this housing. The normal housing is apartment style.
— Ashlyn Miller, Fall 2013
What was your housing situation like?
Program Testimonials
I lived in an apartment with 3 other girls in the 5th district. It was small, but had everything we needed and was a five minute walk from the tram station.

What was your favorite class and why?
Program Testimonials
The Woman as a Writer because the teacher was great!
— Ashlyn Miller, Fall 2013
What was your favorite class and why?
Program Testimonials
My favorite class I took while abroad was The Woman as a Writer and Perspective in Austrian Literature after 1945. I enjoyed this class the most because it allowed me to see how the complicated history of Austria played into everyone's life. The World War affected every person throughout Austria and the Woman's role in society changed drastically. It was a delicate time in Austria and the way the people chose to move on from the war varied, but many of the women writers chose to use imagery and allusions in order to address their recent history.

What did you gain from studying abroad?
Program Testimonials
Too much to write down; new friends, new perspectives and opinions, more German language skills, a new home away from home, and much much more!
— Ashlyn Miller, Fall 2013
What did you gain from studying abroad?
Program Testimonials
I gained a new and different sense of independence that I didn't gain by going to college. I feel more self reliant and confident in myself knowing that I can move to a country where I do not know the language and can be successful. I can navigate a city without getting too lost and learned how to use an entire public transportation system, which I had never been exposed to before. Studying abroad changes you for the better in so many ways and teaches you about yourself, but also the people around you and in the world. You see everything through a different light and as true as culture shock is going to a new country it affects you even more when you go home. You become more adaptable and learn how to make decisions on the go and to trust yourself rather than look to someone else to figure it out and to follow along.
