Budget estimate based on Academic Year 2021-2022 fees (Updated 4/15/2021)
For dates: September 27, 2021 - late June ** (Spring dates not yet available)
Students arrive in Germany Oct. 11-12 after online orientation and Culture & Composition Module Sept. 27 - Oct. 8.

1. Local Transportation: the Middlebury "personal" figure covers basic necessities (local transportation, cell phone, bank fees, program-sponsored excursions, etc.) and does not include students' discretionary spending (e.g. entertainment, fitness, and travel), which is listed above under "Personal".

2. Educational Travel: covered in local transportation fee (see note 1 above)

3. Visa: Fees include Biometric photo fee ($15) and Required Residence Permit Fee ($110 paid onsite).

4. Cell Phone: covered in local transportation fee (see note 1 above)

5. Other: this fee is for Housing & Meals - Middlebury students pay room and board fees directly to their hosts or dorm on-site, depending upon housing arrangements.  The figure also includes an estimate for on-site meals. Students who reserve dormitories in Mainz will transfer money from their German bank accounts to the School in Germany after onsite arrival (when they will open their bank accounts). Students in Potsdam and Berlin will be paying their rents to dorms from their German bank accounts directly.  Students who wait and select apartments will transfer their rent from their bank account to their landlord’s account.

6. COVID Test: Cost for COVID-19 testing in Germany is currently required for re-entry to the U.S. for all travelers. Students may incur costs for other pre- and post-arrival COVID tests in their host country as well.  Please see Department of State COVID country specific information for updated entry and exit testing requirements.

Please note you may have additional expenses related to required or recommended immunizations. The Wofford College Office of International Programs urges you to consult our program materials, the Centers for Disease Control website, and your healthcare provider to assess such needs.

Your actual costs will vary from this estimate prepared by the Office of International Programs. Please compare this estimate to the information that you receive from your program and personalize it based on your chosen program options and personal plans. The Financial Aid Office utilizes this cost estimate when approving scholarships, grants and student loans for use when studying away from campus. All of the above expenses with the exception of independent travel and personal expenses may be used in configuring your financial aid package. Once you are admitted, you may contact the Financial Aid Office with questions regarding your financial aid package.
