Budget estimate based on Fall 2022 fees (Updated 3/31/2022)
For dates August 29 - December 17 or 18, 2022 ** (additional module or research assistantship runs through late-January/early-February 2022)
1. Tuition: The additional course fee of the optional post-program modular course, housing, field study, and insurance is $600 (see below regarding meals). The additional course fee of the optional post-program Research Assistantship, housing, field study, and insurance is $1000 (see below regarding meals).
2. Housing & Included Meals: No meals are included in the shared university apartments or studio apartments. Meal costs range from $2,400 - $3,600, depending on if students leave at the end of IES courses ($2,400) or add the optional modular course or research assistantship ($3,600).
3. Airfare: Figure includes $85 for one-way transportation from airport to Freiburg.
4. Local Transportation: Costs range from $190 - $290.
5. Visa: Figure includes Residence Permit fee ($135) and the Biometric photos ($15) fee, both of which are invoiced by IES after arrival.
6. Educational Travel: Optional IES field trip costs $90.
7. Passport: The estimated cost above includes the $60 fee for expedited service. Due to COVID-19 and its impact on the U.S. Postal Service, the U.S. State Department is currently experiencing delays in receiving passport applications with routine processing service estimated to take as long as 11 weeks. We, therefore, recommend that students send their application using USPS’ Priority Mail Express and consider requesting expedited service if you able. 8. COVID-19 Testing Costs: Cost for COVID-19 testing in Germany is currently required for re-entry to the U.S. for all travelers. Students may incur costs for other pre- and post-arrival COVID tests in their host country as well. Please see Department of State COVID country specific information for updated entry and exit testing requirements.
Please note you may have additional expenses related to required or recommended immunizations. The Wofford College Office of International Programs urges you to consult our program materials, the Centers for Disease Control website, and your healthcare provider to assess such needs.
Your actual costs will vary from this estimate prepared by the Office of International Programs. Please compare this estimate to the information that you receive from your program and personalize it based on your chosen program options and personal plans. The Financial Aid Office utilizes this cost estimate when approving scholarships, grants and student loans for use when studying away from campus. All of the above expenses with the exception of independent travel and personal expenses may be used in configuring your financial aid package. Once you are admitted, you may contact the Financial Aid Office with questions regarding your financial aid package.
